![]() ![]() Another interesting place is the Earth Nations. ![]() I enjoyed the first season/book of this show a lot as it primarily took place in the North and South Pole. ![]() I find this mix of Aboriginal influences interesting. Look me in the eye and tell me that they don’t look almost the EXACT SAME! The Water Tribe members wear animal skin coats and fur boots, much like the anoraks and mukluks work by the Inuit. Their clothing resembles the type of clothing worn by Inuit. The Water Nations are located in Arctic climates, namely the South and North Pole – you can’t really get much colder. The Water Tribes are dominantly influenced by Inuit culture. The Water Tribes are a mixture of various Aboriginal cultures. I will discuss the Water nation, the Earth Kingdom, The Fire Nation and The Air Temples. This post is going to involve me pointing out the cultural influences from each nation. But what cultures do the show reference exactly? In this blog post, that’s what I’m going to explore. It is a playground of cultural discovery. Each nation within the show references different countries and cultures. Avatar’s world was radically different as it was based off of mainly Asian and Aboriginal culture, history, religion and mythology. This is because, every other story related to mythology or ancient history was Eurocentric, focusing on European history and myths. The world’s design was different from other stories that involved mythology and ancient history. What I also remember is how different the show felt in comparison to other shows. Sadly, this is the closest anyone is going to get to actual waterbending □ I’m not ashamed to admit that I tried to bend the elements to no success (honestly, I would have settled to be able to bend water but WHATEVER!) Waterbending?, slifertheskydragon They successfully create well developed characters that you can empathize with, each having their own problems and unique arc all while tackling heavy and dark themes such as morality, responsibility, imperialism, war and genocide.Īlso, I have concluded that I would be an Airbender. I could appreciate how the show is able to create a world that feels real and alive. After a second and third viewing, I gained a new appreciation for the already incredible series. Later in high school, around the tenth grade, I decided to revisit the series and then I revisited it again in my first year of university. I lived around water my whole life – I have a tap at home! I didn’t know it was possible to control the stuff in there with my mind! I had been introduced to a mystical new world and had witnessed people with the power to control the elements. My seven year old heart could not handle what I just witnessed. I remember seeing the show for the first time it aired in 2005. This goofy kid needs to learn all four elements in order to defeat the Fire Lord. The show is about a boy named Aang who holds the title of Avatar, a powerful savior. The Fire Nation ruler (Fire Lord) is the antagonizing force, as he tries to conquer all the other elemental kingdoms. In case you are unaware of the show, Avatar: The Last Airbender involves a world where people control the elements, earth, air, water and fire. I am such a fan of the show – if only you could see my face of excitement behind this keyboard. ![]() If you ever try talking to me about Avatar: The Last Airbender, be prepared to talk for a couple of hours. ![]()
